This is what the LORD says: “Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the LORD. Jeremiah 9:23-24
So your big moment has been announced, marketed and well-advertised.
The stage is now set, the hour has come and everything is ready to go. The refreshments are perfect, the table has been decorated and you have rehearsed your speech to a flawless detail. There is just one problem… No one seems interested, no one has noticed all your hard work and there are no people for you to present your dream to… well, at least not the people you had in mind.
The top business men, the sports scout, the talent agent – “these” are the people and crowd you were expecting. Your success has fallen short of potential buyers, networkers and those that would fund your dream. Don’t look now but failure is knocking at your door and the only background music playing is the sound of crickets (chirp, chirp, chirp). This was an opportunity to see your talent realized or your business succeed, true, but it was also an opportunity to watch God work, speak and be Glorified – and this my friend is where you fell short.
Your Divine Appointment… wasn’t the guy in the suit or even the cool musician searching for his next band member. It wasn’t the judge looking for the next model nor was it the director needing a new script for his screen play.
Nope, it was in the unexpected… the young child who came to your table, full of questions - that you thought was a nuisance. It was the elderly lady who was excited to talk to you because it was the highlight of her day – that you just didn’t feel like you had the time to chat with. It was the many people who walked by - yet you did not acknowledge any of them.
You see, the crowd you wanted to see wasn’t where the party was …
Instead … the party was where God’s Love was playing a song so you could hear… a child desiring… to share her imagination, a lonely soul… in desperate need of conversation, and a fading hope of many empty hearts… searching for recognition.
Oh, and one more thing was in this crowd… crickets. Yes, crickets who made a noise that Glorified God.
By the way… whose BIG moment was it anyway—yours or God’s?
